Training Day 3

107 Days until the Marathon
Today's weather: 78º
Today's humidity: 58%

I can't believe almost a week went by already. One more week off and it's back to work! Ugh.

I ran during the mid-morning and it felt pretty good. Mapped out a route using Geodistance, which ended up looking like an outline of the number 4. It was about 4.3 miles through the neighborhood. It wasn't hot, nor was it humid, but it was pretty sunny.

With the exception of the "West 7th hill/bump" the entire course was rather flat. The course took me up on Ocean Parkway (nice and shady bike/running path) into Bay Parkway (side roads in between a Cemetery and busy street), and Ave P which is the neighborhood flat grounds. I probably should have ran faster than I did, but sometimes it's tough when I don't focus.

Incidentally, I'm trying to get adjusted to the fuel belt. Am I supposed to wear it on my hips or on the flat of my back? I realized I was a bit distracted since it bounced a bit so I just held onto the bottle the entire way. I'm also learning to take sips of water and letting it stay in my mouth a bit before swallowing. Sometimes I get too eager and end up getting waterlogged. Painful.

In terms of food, I ate two pieces of toast with a bit of peanut butter and jam, a hand full of almonds an hour beforehand, and downed it with water. Peanut butter seems and toast seems to work well (if I don't spread it on too thick). After the run I had about 8 strawberries. I think if I keep fruits in the house I'll be more tempted to eat that for the sugar recovery (instead of, say, that chocolate and cream snack cake that's sitting so evilly on the shelf!)

Tomorrow I'll head out to Prospect Park where the entire 3.5 mile loop is one big roller coaster of hills. I plan to do a couple of loops before finding a nice green spot of grass to chill on.
