Softball as Cross-Training?

I've been missing softball lately, a lot. After watching the World Baseball Classics, (and needing a different way of losing some of this stress weight) I've been contemplating returning to the fields. Last time I played in a league was about 3 years ago. I played catcher and outfield, and our team actually made it to the championships. Of course, after I moved from Lower Manhattan to Astoria, it was hard to travel from work, then home, then to the fields, so I stopped playing for the league.

Fast forward to now, I'm living in Brooklyn, and I have a BF that manages a men's softball team (and have done so for the past 5-6 years). He's out every Saturday during Spring and Summer playing, and I miss the camaraderie of being on a team. Don't get me wrong, I love the solitude of running, and being able to focus inward, but there's definitely something about swinging the bat and hearing the crack of the ball as it sails over the pitcher... (Okay, I don't do that often either, but hey, I still like the sound!)

So I wonder if softball can constitute as cross-training? More importantly, I wonder if it can fit in my schedule, which at this point, consists of a major move some time in April/May (we got approved for a loan!), the 9+1 races and training for it, the MCM and NYCM (if I register/get accepted), and my various business events? Tough, tough, tough.

Sorry, I'm just rambling. Back to running, I've also been thinking about 2-a-days. But after yesterday's run I'm not sure if my knees can handle it. So we'll see..

This is just MY opinion... but I think fitting in as much fun/activity in your life as possible is the way to go!

Congrats on the loan approval. Next thing you know, we'll be getting to see pics of your new place!

I agree with Susan. If it's fun - do it!

As for the 2 a days - take it easy on those - try two short runs and see how you do. Maybe stretching and icing in between will help?
