Fartleks are fun

I did my own version of fartleks today, mainly to relieve some work-related stress. Thank goodness the end of the week is near, but even so, I know I just need to get through these next two critical weeks in the quarter. Upcoming meetings on the 19th and 26th, after which I plan to take a couple days off to decompress.

I wasn't too happy when I stepped on the scale this morning. I was shocked, like SHOCKED at the numbers. And not in a good way. There's so much weighing on my mind that I'm sprouting a heck of a lot of new white hairs, and feeling very uncomfortable all around. (Apparently all that weighing on my mind is now weighing on my midsection!) Thankfully I caught a break around 3pm and just emailed my boss that I needed to step out for an hour before heading back to the looming deadline.

It was quite breezy, but at 45 degrees it wasn't all too bad as long as I stayed in the sunlight. Ocean Parkway is a good place to run (as long as you watch out for the careless drivers who blind turn into the side streets). I ran in fits and sprinted and bounded and basically varied my speed throughout the entire run. It was quite amusing and brought back memories of how, when as a kid I used to run just for the heck of it. I did wish Spring would come sooner. I miss seeing green.

All in all it was probably over 3.5, but I stopped the Sportband at 3.25 for a nice looking number. Plus I only had an hour to head back before the phone calls and emails started up again. So far so good. I can sneak in some freelance (and blog time!) before I hear back from the company.

Saturday I have the NYRR 8000m in Central Park and next week the Colon Cancer 15k. After that it's the More Half Marathon in April and by then I will have already done half of my 9+1 to qualify for NYC 2010!

Anyway, now that I'm de-stressed, it's time to get back to work! (blah!)

Glad you had a chance to escape if only for a while. Fun fartlek!
